Terms of use
Last updated 3 August 2026
These terms cover your use of A Better Health App. The most important part is the first section, and it is first because it matters most — not because of a legal convention.
1. This is not medical advice
A Better Health App is not a medical device, and nothing in it is medical advice. It is a diary with arithmetic attached. It records what you tell it, adds up what you have logged, and shows you patterns in your own data.
It specifically does not, and cannot:
- diagnose any condition, or rule one out;
- tell you whether a symptom is serious;
- recommend, adjust or discourage any medication or treatment;
- replace a conversation with a doctor, pharmacist or dietitian.
Where the app shows that two things moved together, that is a description of your log, not a finding about your body. Correlation in a personal diary is a starting point for a question, not an answer — and the app is deliberately built to say how much data a pattern rests on, so you can judge it.
Do not delay seeking medical help because of anything this app shows or does not show. If you have symptoms that worry you, speak to a clinician. In an emergency, call 999 (or your local emergency number). If you are in the UK and unsure, NHS 111 is available at any hour.
Nutrition targets shown in the app are derived from general UK population guidance (SACN and NHS Eatwell) adjusted for your height, weight, age and sex. They are not a prescription and take no account of any condition, allergy, pregnancy, medication or clinical advice you have been given. Where the two differ, follow your clinician.
2. Your account
You need an account to sync between devices. Sign-in uses a passkey held by your device — there is no password to lose, reuse or have stolen in somebody else's breach.
You are responsible for the devices that hold your passkeys. Anyone who can unlock your device can open your account, in the same way they could open your email.
You must be 16 or over to create an account. The app is not designed for children and is not marketed to them.
3. Accuracy of what you log
The app's output is only as good as its input. Where nutrition is looked up from a barcode or read from a photograph of a label, it may be wrong: labels change, databases contain errors, and reading text from a photograph is imperfect. Figures the app was unsure about are marked as estimates.
You can correct any entry at any time, and corrections are recorded so the history stays honest rather than being silently rewritten.
4. Shared product data
When you scan a product nobody has recorded before, you may choose to contribute its name, barcode and nutrition to a shared catalogue so other people's scans find it.
Only the packet is ever shared — never the meal. Not when you ate it, not how much, not anything identifying you. Contributing is a choice, and declining costs you nothing.
5. Availability
The app is provided as-is. It is a small independent product, currently in private testing, and no uptime is guaranteed. Features described as coming may change or not arrive.
Your data is exportable in full, at any time, in a single file — so if the service ends, or you simply want to leave, you take your record with you. See the data rights page.
6. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to access anybody else's data, disrupt the service, or submit deliberately false information to the shared product catalogue. Accounts doing any of these may be suspended.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, A Better Health App is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it, including any decision you make about your health on the basis of what it shows.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
8. Changes
These terms may change as the app develops. Material changes will be notified in the app rather than quietly published here, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
